NARFE April 2025

Because of the kindness and generosity of NARFE members, the Alzheimer's Association® is advancing vital research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure. According to results of a preliminary study partially funded by the Association, a new kind of blood test may not only help diagnose Alzheimer's but could also indicate how far the disease has progressed. Researchers said determining the clinical stage of Alzheimer's and other dementia can help ensure individuals receive the most beneficial treatment. Thank you, NARFE partners, for the role your support plays in the Association's efforts to accelerate global research.

Alzheimer's risk may rise when amount of deep sleep falls
Not spending enough time in the two deep stages of sleep — slow-wave and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep — may be associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer's, according to the results of a new study. While more research is needed, scientists said that deficits in slow-wave and REM sleep appear to shrink parts of the brain known to be early indicators of cognitive deterioration and Alzheimer's. Experts say "sleep hygiene" can help result in better sleep. Learn more.
